Beta Test Feed is Up!

Posted by: mthalhe

Excuse the angle of the camera, but our beta test feed is finally up and running! In this feed we have Timmy the squishy black lab who is 4 months old and Melody the friendly beagle who is 2 years old and is full grown. Both of these animals are up for adoption at the PAWS Atlanta Animal Shelter For information about adopting Timmy and Melody Click Here. If you want to adopt one of these puppies, Click Here to fill out the application.

Due to the angle of the camera, the dogs are not always on the screen. We will be fixing this over the next day or so. The dogs are generally outside from 10-3 pm EST. Also, we are almost finished redesigning our site and will soon be adding more shelters and more live feeds! Stay tuned.

Why we MUST Spay and Neuter Animals

Posted by: mthalhe

Today, after meeting with a wonderful woman named Susan, at the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter (where you can adopt the adorable cat shown above), I decided to do a little research on spaying and neutering animals.

The most astounding fact I came across, was that For every person born each day, there are 7 cats/dogs born as well. This means that there is no possible way we can provide homes for all of these poor animals. Even worse, this is a huge crisis that is causing thousands of animals to either die of suffering and starvation, or be euthanized every day.

We must work together to stop this from happening. Puppy mills and breeders are the enemy and they must be stopped. At the same time, we must do everything we can to spay and neuter as many pets as possible.

Currently Squishycute.com is working on redesigning our site completely. We hope to inform as many people as possible on how to help spay and neuter pets in order to help SAVE THE ANIMALS! For now here are some facts we found on NAFA’s website that were quite shocking:

 1. Every day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born in this country while only 10,000 people are born. It’s simple math - there just aren’t enough homes for all of these animals.

 2. Every year over 6 million animals are euthanized in shelters for lack of available homes. If the number were “only” 7 million, that would mean 135,000 PER WEEK, or 20,000 pets euthanized EVERY 24 HOURS. 365 DAYS A YEAR!

 3. An animal is euthanized in the U.S. every 2 seconds.

 4. On average, 64% of all animals taken into shelters nationwide have to be euthanized for this reason.

 5. The animals at animal control shelters are not “problem” animals. The animals available for adoption have been picked up as strays or taken from the owner for abuse, or neglect. They are truly in need of a loving home and are greatly appreciative for a second chance at life.

 6. At least 50% of the overpopulation problem is non-neutered males. Females can’t do it alone.

 7. Purebreds account for 30% off all the animals in shelters. “Papers” don’t mean an animal should be bred.

 8. For every home you find for an animal that you have bred, a home is lost for a shelter animal.

 9. Breeding to “see the miracle of birth” demands that you also “see the tragic results”. Visit a shelter and watch a puppy being euthanized for every puppy your “miracle of birth” delivered.

 10. Animal overpopulation has reached a crisis point in this country.

Our Economy Sucks

Posted by: mthalhe

If you haven’t noticed, people are getting laid off all over the place. With so many people losing their jobs, most can’t afford to maintain their current style of living. Many have to give up their homes and find cheaper places to live. Unfortunately, our economy has gotten so bad, that many people can even no longer afford their pets! Today I received this terrible email about a woman who lost her job and now has to give up her dog:

“SWEET GABRIEL (Lab Mix) IS LOSING HER HOME AS HER OWNER/MOTHER IS LOSING HERS!! CAN SOMEONE FOSTER HER IN THE INTERIM??

Gabriel is a sweet 5-year old male lab mix. His coat is a very dark brown color, almost black. He needs a new home because his mom works very long hours and travels a lot, forcing him to be boarded more than usual. This was the reason Sweet Gabrial had to find another home a year ago……………BUT, we’ve received a call from the mother of the person who has this dog, and, now, we MUST take Gabriel back because the woman who has Gabriel is soon to be OUT of her home as, she’s jobless!

Gabriel would be happiest as the only pet, because he loves getting all the attention. He currently lives with 2 cats but chases them some because he wants to play. He also likes playing with other dogs at the dog park. Gabriel loves to go for walks, car rides, to jog with his mom. He also loves playing with his toys, sitting in your lap too…thinking he’s a lap dog. Gabriel is also housebroken. He’s an all around great dog, perfect for most people.

PLEASE CONTACT macygirl2000@yahoo.com OR julanec1@att.net IF YOU WOULD CONSIDER FOSTERING SWEET GABRIEL……OR, BETTER YET, ADOPTING HIM!!”

We also received an email about these dogs as well:

“February 1, 2009 Message: PERMANENT HOME NEEDED FOR SWEET LADY (red chow mix) AND CUTIE PIE GRUFF (terrier mix)! PLEASE CONTACT julanec1@att.net WITH INQUIRIES”

Faith the Two Legged Dog

Posted by: mthalhe

A dog named Faith, was going to be put to death because it only had two legs. Doctor’s believed the dog would never be able to walk on it’s own and they had no hope. The poor squishy dog had no where to turn, and was only a few days away from getting euthanized, when a loving woman decided to take him in and attempt to train him to walk on two legs. Although the task seemed impossible, this womans unbelievable faith in this dog (where he got his name), eventually paid off.

Faith is now happily alive and is merrily walking on two legs everywhere he goes. You don’t believe me? See for yourself:

Caught in the Moment

What is cuter than two completely different breed and sized dogs cudling together? Not much. Seems a little ironic that the big guy is resting on the little guy. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Either way, who cares. This is utterly adorable.

Along with this wonderful picture we bring you good news. It would seem that we are finally one small step closer to our final destination. There is still a long way to go and we had a few issues. However, they are getting resolved once and for all and soon, our first live feeds will finally be ready for viewing. Stay tuned!

American Eskimo Puppies are Abandoned

Posted by: mthalhe

The other day, I was busy setting up a webcam at a Humane Society in Atlanta, when a woman cam into the shelter with these two adorable puppies. As we joyously played with the puppies behind the desk the woman told us the shocking story of how she ended up with these puppies.

This woman’s neighbor was going on a trip for the weekend, and needed someone to baby sit his two American Eskimo puppies. The woman told him she could puppy sit for him and she was given the dogs for the weekend. Five days later, the man still had not returned home. She still had the dogs and was very concerned about their owner. Turns out, the guy moved and abandoned the puppies! How he could manage to part with these adorable little fluff balls, I do not know.

Fortunately this woman did the right thing and brought the puppies to a no-kill animal shelter. They gladly took them in and they are almost ready to be put up for adoption. Odds are, they are already reserved. I have seen many puppies in my lifetime, but these are by far the cutest. In fact American Eskimo is now my favorite breed of dog.

The puppies are currently being held at a Humane Society in Atlanta. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out the contact us form.

ALPO’s Blog is Up!

Posted by: mthalhe

ALPO’s site is finally up! ALPO is the UGA Animal Legal Protection Organization. They work with people and shelters in Georgia to find homes for animals and protect rights of all that is squishy and cute as well. Squishycute is working with ALPO to help animals in need of new homes. This is our latest case:

“If interested, please contact Freda at hmajka1@yahoo.com

As many of you know, we are moving in just 2 weeks.Unfortunately, I have
still not been able to find a good home for Cookie and Coco. We’re not able
to take our beloved doggies with us and I’ve been desperately trying to find
a home for both of them ‘together’. They were raised together and pine
without each other. The Lab rescue have already said that they would
probably separate them, so this is my last resort.

Recently I tried to take Coco out in my car alone and she TOTALLY refused to
even get into the car without Cookie…..!!!! She absolutely pulled back on
her haunches until Cookie was by her side. Both doggies are in great health,
have been spayed and have ID chips implanted under the skin.

Cookie turned 3 December 10th and Coco will be 3 April 1st. Cookie is my
mellow-yellow, and just loves her tummy rubbed. Coco is adorably funny and
lives for her “ball”. She also loves the water….. Cookie loves lots of
attention. Both doggies are loyal and love to walk. They have been raised
with my 3 kids running around all over the place, and have survived Sammy’s
constant hugging and love of ‘dress-up’, so they are fantastic family dogs.
This is by far one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make,
but under the circumstances I have no choice.

Please, Please forward these pics to all you know and help me find a great
home for these fabulous doggies. They are just adorable and it’s
heartbreaking to let them go. In a perfect world, I hope that we could find
someone local so that we can still keep in touch and visit them. I pray that
someone, somewhere can help us keep Cookie and Coco together, and love them just as much as we do. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Best Regards,
Sarah”

In my opinion, the lab on the left is quite squishy, and the one on the right is very cute. They both seem very loving and if I had the room, time, and money, I would instantly get them. Unfortunately, I do not. So please pass the word along and help them find a new home (or adopt them yourself)!

6 Puppies Need New Home Fast: ITS A HOAX

Posted by: mthalhe

Yesterday I received an email about 6 puppies, currently located in Atlanta, GA that needed a new home. Although these puppies are extremely cute and squishy, the email turned out to be a hoax. Why someone would do this as a joke, is a question I can’t even think of an answer for. First of all, it’s not funny at all. Second of all, it doesn’t really cause harm or damage to anyone. Lastly, the only thing this email does, is waste a few precious minutes of peoples’ lives. So what is the true motive of this hoax? I guess we will never know. Below is a link to the site explaining where this email originated and the email I received last night:

Hoax Revealed

Email I received:

“Scott (my friend) rescued 6 black lab (mix) puppies out of the middle of the road on Saturday. PLEASE help me find them homes - otherwise, it’s Animal Control - which means they only have 5 days. We’ve bathed them, sprayed them for fleas and wormed them….but we can’t keep them. They are currently in a kennel in my basement since Idon’t have a fence. I’ve lost count of the number of rescue groups that I’ve contacted, only to be turned down due to no room. Please check with every dog person you know to see if they need a puppy”

Why do you think someone would do this? Until next time.
